In 1989, the Fairbanks community came together with the inspiration and motivation to remodel, redecorate, and refurbish the building that was formerly Careage North/Denali Center to become a facility by and for non-profits. Today, this building is known as The Carol H. Brice Family Center. The mission of The Carol H. Brice Family Center (CBFC) is to provide a community center that empowers families and improves their quality of life. The Carol H. Brice Family Center accomplishes this goal by promoting a community center that provides the most appropriate facility environment at the least cost to various non-profit agencies with programs supporting families and children. The conversion of this 25,000 square foot convalescent home into a center of like-minded non-profits has been an ongoing process for over ten years. Space in the CBFC is leased (utilities included) at a rate below the local cost per square foot to non-profits to help support their programs that provide necessary family community services.
After more than three decades, the Brice Center needed a new roof. Thanks to a generous grant from The Rasmuson Foundation and the support of the community, this was accomplished during the summer of 2008, although a planned remodel of the front entryway was postponed. Additionally, future plans include interior upgrades and an exterior face lift. These upgrades and improvements will extend the life of the building and attract new tenants with programs to benefit the residents of the Fairbanks community and Interior Alaska for another 35 years.
Proposed upgrades and capital improvements to The Carol H. Brice Family Center are scheduled in three phases over a five year period.
